UFC 102 Picks

August 26, 2009 · Posted in Uncategorized

Marcus Aurelio will take on Evan Dunham in the first fight of the night. Aurelio is a seasoned vet coming off of 2 losses while Dunham is looking to stay undefeated at 8-0.

Dunham by TKO GNP in 2nd

Nick Catone is taking on Mark Munoz in what should be a decent fight. Both are coming off losses & looking to build a winning streak up.

Catone by KO in 3rd

Tim Hague is taking on Todd Duffee. These guys are 2 big heavyweights so I’m thinking we will see a slug fest.

Hague by decision

First off, I am glad that Mike Russow has made it to the UFC & is getting the opportunity to make his debut on a PPV under card against Justin McCully. Mike is 11-1 with his only loss coming back in 07′. He is a Chicago Police officer & all of us here in Chicago will be cheering him on. If it ends the way I’m sure he intends it to, we may get to see the replay during the main card.

Russow by submission in the 1st.

Gonzaga, who we all know made himself famous by his vicious KO of Cro Cop at UFC 70 will be facing Chris Tuchscherer. I’m looking for Gonzaga to finish this fight similar to his UFC 70 showing.

Gonzaga by KO (head kick) in the 2nd.

Ed Herman will be facing Aaron Simpson. Ed is coming off a unanimus decision win against Loiseau. Simpson on the other hand is undefeated with a 5-0 record. In my opinion, this is Simpson’s first test although McKenzie (Simpson’s last opponent) is no slouch. I think Herman takes it.

Herman by decision

Main Card

Brandon Vera will be taking on Krzysztof Soszynski (say that 10 times fast). Vera is coming off of a win against Mike Patt via leg kicks at UFC 96 while Soszynski is riding a 6 fight win streak including 3 by way of Kimura. I think this fight has the potential to be fight of the night. The TRUTH is…

Vera by TKO in the 2nd

Nate Marquardt will be taking on BJJ Blackbelt Demian Maia who doesn’t know what it feels like to lose coming in with a perfect 10-0 record. Marquardt hasn’t been submitted since 2003 & I don’t think he will submitted on Aug. 29th.

Marquardt by TKO GNP in the 3rd.

Chris Leben will take his 18-5 record into the Octagon to face Jake Rosholt. Although Leben has many more fights under his belt I think Rosholt takes this one.

Rosholt by submission in the 2nd.

Keith “The Dean Of Mean” Jardine coming off a loss to Rampage Jackson will face American Top Team’s Thiago Silva. Silva is coming off a loss to Machida at UFC 94.  Jardine’s last 2 of 3 losses have come by way of KO. I have the feeling we will see the same result at 102.

Silva by KO in the 2nd.

Randy “The Natural” Couture will face off against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a long awaited Heavyweight bout. Both fighters are coming of a loss and are looking to get back in to title contention. Nogueira is a submission master but Couture hasn’t been submitted since 02′. I think Randy’s gameplan will prevail again although I think this one goes to a decision.

Couture by unanimus decision.

As much as I would like to see Couture get a rematch against Brock I think the size difference is too much for Randy to overcome. But…with that said..I would never count “The Natural” out.

I’m looking forward to UFC 102. It should be a great night of fights! I will be on Twitter updating main card fight results in real time. Follow Me.

I caught a replay of the Couture vs Lesnar fight and noticed Brock took the advantage and seemed to win when it appeared he hit Couture in the side/back of the head. He got called against Mir in thier first fight and then I see he might have slipped again but nothing was ever mentioned of that hit on Couture (atleast not on the broadcast i saw). Was that a clean hit? Randy seemed to be doing his thing till he took that punch to the head.

I think he should have been warned in the Mir fight & he never was. I agree it did look like Randy got hit behind his ear but Brock was in front of him so I can understand why the ref wouldn’t have called that.
