Is TUF 10 the worst yet?

October 1, 2009 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

I have to hand it to the UFC. They are top notch MMA promoters & marketing geniuses but TUF 10 has sucked bad so far. There were no fights to get on the show. Besides a few football players, Kimbo & Nelson…no other fighter has been covered on the show. Maybe none of those guys have a personality or maybe none of them like to get drunk & do stupid shit?

Last nights “Biggest UFC Fight Ever” should now be called the “Biggest Flop”. Granted Nelson did what he had to in order to pull of a win but the submission specialist couldn’t pull off a sub on a guy that has no clue what to do on the ground. There were a few people on Twitter claiming Nelson didn’t want to sub Kimbo. I can remember an arm bar attempt along with what looked like a D’arce choke attempt as well a possible kimora attempt but most people wouldn’t know that unless Joe Rogan told them so. A BJJ black belt can’t submit a “street fighter”?

Kimbo’s stand up game is supposed to be his strength. He looked like he was holding back the whole fight for fear of Nelson shooting & taking him down. They showed Kimbo sprawl over & over in training but he must have forgot how to do it when the bell rang. He had the reach advantage & could have easily created space but he didn’t. Nelson was not the aggressor in this fight by any means.

Immediately after the loss they show you Kimbo may get a 2nd chance to keep you watching. Who would want to see that all over again? Maybe he’ll get a KO & people will jump right back on the band wagon. He has been in MMA for over 2 years now. I saw improvement in his take down defense but he doesn’t know what to do on the ground & he forgot the basic boxing fundamentals.

This season of TUF 10 has been the worst one yet in my opinion. I’m hoping we get to see a few decent fights being that this is the most watched season to date.

If last nights episode was the first one you have seen, will you watch it again? If I didn’t love the sport…I wouldn’t.

What’s Next For Kimbo?

September 24, 2009 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

Kimbo Slice will be taking on Roy Nelson on next weeks Ultimate Fighter. Although this fight took place a few months ago, no one outside of the show knows the outcome. Everyone has heard a rumor but the UFC has done a good job keeping a fight of this magnitude a secret. Could the straight right Kimbo lands below be the end of the fight? Why aren’t Nelson’s hands up?

This fight would probably do a decent PPV draw but rumor has it Kimbo will be making his debut at the Ultimate Fighter finale (Live on Spike Dec, 5) but know one knows who he is going to fight. Will he be fighting to become the next Ultimate Fighter or will he take on a decent Heavy Weight & cash in on his fame? Either way..I know we will all be watching!

UFC Fight Night – Diaz vs. Guillard Predictions

September 14, 2009 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

Here are my predictions for UFC Fight Night – Diaz vs. Guillard

Ryan Jensen (14-4) Vs. Steve Steinbeiss (4-2)

Ryan Jensen by KO in the 2nd

Brock Larson (27-2) Vs. Mike Pierce (8-2)

Brock Larson by Sub in the 2nd

Jeremy Stephens (16-5) Vs. Justin Buchholz (9-3)

Jeremy Stephens by Decision

Sam Stout (15-5-1) Vs. Phillipe Nover (6-2-1)

Stout by KO in the 1st

CB Dollaway (9-3) Vs. Jay Silva (5-1)

Silva by TKO GNP in the 2nd

Chris Wilson (13-5-0 1NC) Vs. Mike Pyle (17-6-1)

Pyle by Sub in 2nd

Steve Cantwell (7-2) Vs. Brian Stann (6-2)

Stann by Decision

Nate Quarry (17-3) Vs. Tim Credeur (13-4)

Quarry by TKO GNP in the 1st

Carlos Condit (23-5) Vs. Jake Ellenberger (21-4)

Ellenberger by KO in the 2nd

Gray Maynard (8-0 1NC) Vs. Roger Huerta (22-2-1 1NC)

Maynard is undefeated coming into this fight against Huerta who is coming off a loss to Kenny Florian. This will be the last fight on Roger Huerta’s current UFC contract. I think Huerta’s mind could be elsewhere while Maynard is focused on getting a title shot soon.

Maynard by Sub in 2nd

Nate Diaz (10-4) Vs. Melvin Guillard (41-8-3 1NC)

I don’t bet against the Diaz brothers in any fight & this one is no different. I think Guillard will come out & be the aggressor to take the 1st round. I’m looking for Diaz to sink a RNC late in the 2nd round on a gassed Guillard.

Diaz by Sub in 2nd

I will post my UFC 103 picks by Friday Sept. 18th

Sweet Home Chicago

August 25, 2009 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

This Saturday at UFC 102, Chicago Police Officer Mike Russow will make his UFC debut against Justin McCully. Mike is 11-1 with his only loss coming back in 2007. Mike is a submission specialist with 9 of his 11 wins coming by way of submission. Justin on the other hand is 9-4-2 coming off a win last year against Eddie Sanchez. 5 of Justin’s wins have come by way of a submission as well. I believe Russow has the upper hand on the ground & standing up. He has fought in many local shows here in Illinois as well as Vegas, Wisconsin & over seas in Japan. I’m looking for Russow to stand up early but I think this fight is going to go to the ground fairly quick. Mike will more than likely be looking for a N/S or RNC choke & end it as soon as possible. He will have the entire Chicago Police Dept. as well as fans all over Illinois behind him. I’m hoping this fight will be replayed during the main card. He is a tough HW & he is coming into the UFC at a perfect time. Good Luck Mike! Make us proud!

You can follow me on Twitter for real time updates on UFC 102. I will also be posting my picks this Wednesday, Aug. 26th.

GSP’s Next Fight & Fedor’s Circus

August 20, 2009 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

GSP

GSP

It was reported today by MMA Fanhouse that Georges St. Pierre could be fighting as soon as January 2010. I have him on my list as the top P4P fighter in the world right now. It is rumored that he may be defending his title against the winner of the Swick vs. Kampmann fight at UFC 103 which should be an awesome fight.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, StrikeForce refuses to have a set date for Fedor’s first fight & they won’t give us an opponent yet. There are rumors all over Twitter about Fedor getting some easy fights first ( as if this is something new ) then building him up ( best in the world needs to be built up? ) before he can get a shot at the illustrious StrikeForce HW title.

If you have read anything I have posted in the past or you follow me on Twitter, you would know I can’t stand this guy. He & his company with their genius “co-promo” ideas have taken several organizations down. I hate to say it because I like StrikeForce & they have a lot of good fighters in every other weight class but I think Fedor could be the end for them unless….( keep reading )

He wants to pad his record just as much as they do to try & make more money.

Then people at StrikeForce say they must be making some progress if Dana White mentions them all the time. Maybe…just maybe..Dana is building them up a bit knowing they to will one day be owned by Zuffa.

The UFC is #1. The WEC in my opinion has the best most entertaining fights in MMA. StrikeForce has a decent stable and….women. I say keep the women there & build it up then Zuffa can work their magic.

I know a lot of people say “we need competition in MMA”. The UFC really hasn’t had any competitors. They started this MMA thing in the mainstream. Other organizations have tried to capatalize on what the UFC built & they have all failed. Dana has a knack for making the best fighters in the world compete against each other. If Zuffa took StrikeForce over, all questions would be answered. We would know once & for all who the best is in every division. Why wouldn’t MMA fans want to see that?

Why does it matter to the common fan who owns what unless they are a shareholder? If Zuffa owns them all we will get to see who the best really is. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that sooner or later Fedor will put up or shut up. If he is afraid to make more money & fight the best he should take the cash he has already made ( not earned ) along with his WAMMA belt that no one cares about & bring his circus back home!
